Ok guyz here we go again
i rebuilt my main by swapping mobos, psu and case, installed the abit KT7A Raid, added all my components, formatted hd, installed win 98se.
1st problem, would not see primary drive
2nd-first would detect evrything, then it would'nt
3rd- would not install win xp pro
4th- would detect monitor and vid card then upon reboot would set both back to default
5th-Would detect cdrom and cdrw then again upon reboot would not
6th-would detect mouse, floppy and nic card, it got tempermental then said "i dunno i don't see *****"
Last but not least-outdated bios error message. I did'nt even think about updating the bios, i did that b4 and i fried my mobo.
After more than 18 hrs non-stop to try and get this mobo to run i got fed up and yanked it out, but it back in da box. i was up since yesterday from about 6 am yesterday till 8am today trying to figure this out. I think i pused my body to its limits by staying up so long on acount of my illness. I was determined to get this rig up and runnin b4 i went to bed but apparently it was a bust.
My brother and his g/f bought me a new board AZZA KT3-AV
never heard of them but that's what i'm using right now with no problems.
Installed evrything and booted, mobo detected evrything with great precision
Installation of win xp pro went smooth as silk
Now the million dollar question;
Why a fly-by-nite brand mobo like "AZZA" run better than a well known brand "abit" ?Don't get me wrong guyz, i'm truly greatful for your help and sending me these parts when i was outta action but i'm perplexed here. Now i know someone is gonna say: "did you go into bios and set evrything right?" the answer to that is yes, i went thru bios with a fine toothed comb and still came up with these problems and that was just the main ones !
Were all my components installed correctly? Such as cards, jumper settings on hd's, cables, jumpers on the mobo. Yes to all
Like i said b4 i dunno why the mobo did'nt work.
Ok enough of that , i'll get some pics of my new rig and find a way to post them.
Thanx again for all your help guyz ! :)

Sorry to hear you had so many problems. It is possible that the board is bad. It happens no matter what the brand is. You should of tried to flash the Bios before giving up.

I tried flashing bios but for some reason i fried my new mobo. Just cuz i wanted to install a new cpu chip
i went to the mobo site, checked the specs and it said it supported my new cpu, but when i installed it, it would'nt boot up. I posted a thread on it, got a response with instructions. i went back to the mobo site, downloaded the flash utility and the new bios also printed up the instructions. got me a cup of coffee and my cigs and i went 4 it. 10 minutes later my new mobo was dead. So as far as flashing is concerned i'm not gonna do it again. The abit board is used and not beat up in any sense. At least it'll make a great conversation piece. I can always say i have an abit KT7A raid mobo. It'll just sit in the closet with my new but useless power supply and other parts that are new and for some uncanny reason wont work right either.
These computer stores and shops i go to get my parts luv me.
i spend my money, try to find the cause of the problem, modify the part to see if that helps, warranty goes out da window and i'm stuck with new parts that wont work for me.
Flashing bios? Not for me
Btw, that's how i got this abit board. Someone donated it me after i fried my new mobo.

You see...bad luck isnt stupid, the free one worked because that cost you nothing, if you fried it, you would just get a new one because as far as you know the board sucks...now on the other hand, you paid for the abit and thought it would work perfect...now that breaking (which it did) would really pissed you off...
hope that helps :D

Its not all that bad to flash ur bios. just make sure u dont turn off ur power and clear ur cmos after the flash. Dont be afraid. that should be the first and last time u fry the mobo flashing the bios, Or else it was the new cpu. Cpus can be bad. they can put too much power to the mobo!

so whats the problemo?

can u get into the BIOS?

the mobo was working b4 but i havent used it in a couple months

so what does this BIOS error message say? i've never heard of a outdated BIOS error message.make sure the BIOS chip is installed in the socket all the way,i had to put it in my other mobo so it might not be in all the way.

i didnt know ur last board was dead cause of a bad BIOS flash.u can get a new BIOS chip here http://www.badflash.com/

After reboot it wont see main drive and when i got back into bios it's not there, I auto detect and bios finds it. upon reboot it disappears. Sometimes it's there sometimes its not
i try to go online, i get the "cannot find server" error. I go to device manager and 3 componets have a yellow mark. I click on em,then properties and it says: "device is working but bios reports and error with a # .You must update bios in order for device to work" It's like that with my mouse, nic card and floppy drive.
i reinstalled drivers, go back to bios, auto detect, all drives are detected, save and exit. While it's rebooting, my main drive disappears again.
Go back to device manager there go the yellow dots again on mouse, nic card and floppy drive.
For the life of me i dunno why it does that

Abit's softswitch technology makes BIOS updates easy. If your trying to update your BIOS drivers Abit's website has a link to a step-by-step how to that makes it really easy. If you are changing parameters within your BIOS like FSB settings/CPU clock speeds and voltages just be sure you KNOW all your hardware specs so you don't overclock anything and fry it.

check out www.abit-usa.com and look for that how-to on flashing the BIOS.

luck

Ok no problemo
Since i'm gonna build me another rig i'll go 4 it.I'll just have to get a few more parts including a case and i'll go for broke.
what's the worst that can happen right? :(
