ok so heres the situation,

my friend found this drive spanning in windows XP..... an option only available in windows XP. its well, just like RAID, but XP sets it up for you, rather than a RAID controller.

heres the problem. He needs to image copy the drive. Norton Ghost cannot see the drive, because windows XP does not let anything else see the drive.

and you cannot get rid of this partition without destroying all data on the drive.

So how can this be fixed, is there any way to get rid of the permissions set on the drive, or any other solution???

thanks

this has been around since windows 2000. it's called a software raid array...aka windows dynamic disks.. the only way around that is to put another harddrive into the computer and move the info to it beFORE converting your partitions into dynamic disks.. ANOTHER thing to remember is the windows installation ITSELF CANNOT BE ON A DYNAMIC DISK.. meaning don't try to convert the main partition of you're screwed.

I remember software RAID in NT 4.0 Server even.

If you have RAID 1, you can break the mirror. RAID 0...you're stuck.

Stay away from software RAID.
