Just wondering cuz if I install a 256 stick on top of my 512 stick it will run for a while ok but will eventually freeze.
It`s just that a couple of peeps have told me about a fix/patch to make ME run with unlimited memory (well as much as the mobo will take;) :D )

Yah, Win98/98se/me have a problem when you install RAM over the 512 meg mark...it's VCache goes wild and reserves all the memory, leaving nothing for the OS and other apps.
Honestly, it's a big waste installing more than 512 on a 9X based system, 9X (which includes ME) doesn't fully utilize all available RAM like NT based OS's do (NT 4 Workstation, 2K, XP). Matter of fact, 9X based OS's pretty much flatline using RAM much past the 320 - 384 meg mark....all the rest of your RAM is indeed seen, but not ever used.
Here's the Q article from Microsoft:

It's actually an issue where the OS simply refuses to fully boot up, it errors out. Win98se and I think 98 original coule make it to 768 megs before freaking out, WinME 512 megs. If you added more RAM, you'd actually get an error about insufficient memory because the VCache went hogwild and sucked it all up. Then you'd have to edit the system.ini VCache settings, setting min and max....then Windows would boot up fine without errors.
It boots up fine with 256, 320, 384...up to 512. No errors. Just doesn't really use the RAM above 320 - 384...depending on various system settings.
