Old Maxtor question

Just found a really old maxtor hdd. It doesnt say how large it is but it says '93 on it. I would put it in and try it out but it has no jumpers (or places to put them) so im wondering if this is wise. There is also a weird white two pin connector on the fron that lloks like a mini power connector. I already looked on the maxtor website but that was no help. If any oen knows about really old hard drive in new systems (with windows xp) please tell me. thanks

just found out what the two pin power connector looking thing on the fornt may be. I think it is a HDD LED connector.

I just want to do it for the heck not the extra storage of it but you are prob right. I might try putting a window in it like, i think it was roundeye, did for a cd-rom. prob wont work but worth a try. I've Never taken apart a hdd actually. Seen one open but never opened one myself Hmm

do you think there is any potential danger to my system (however unlikely) if i put it in even thoguh it has no jumpers? If i have a window in it i want it to be able to spin!

SWEEEET! I must do that oh man that is cool. I think i may do it to my backup HDD (Western Digital Caviar 31600 1.6 gig)(you never can be to sure when your primary is an IBM). then i would have to get a special thing for my case so that it could be seen. Thats awsome thanks for the links! :D :D

Hey man don't you have a spare Hdd laying around that you dont care too much about? With all those nice Hdd's in your sig you must have an old crappy one that you can mod right?

i just bought a maxtor 40GIG 7200 for this system (all those in the sig will go into my server -- coming soon to amro's room near me)....i've a 2 or 4 gig layin around someplace but was gonna use it as the main server hdd..shrug

hey well you cant do every mod. Its too bad some one has done this before. It would be neat to be the first. But i have a cool idea that will be a big hit at lan parties if i can get it to work. This will be huge revolutionary but i cant tell what it is or someone will copy me when i do do it i will be sure and post lots of pics.
