i just got one of these (http://www.so-trickcomputers.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code=MVSB1&Category_Code=E1[/url) the other day and it runs the voltage from 11.25 down to 1.25.

the question i have is when i turn the fans down all the way they stop spinning, which is okay, I was just wondering if that is an okay way to turn the fans off for an extended period of time, the fans it will control are only needed part time.

is that bad for the fans , like will it burn them out or maybe burn out the reostats??

any info you all can give me would help alot.

I sent the maker an e-mail and still waiting for a response......

i am not sure how that works , it may passing electricity to the fans while you turn them off or it may not. If the electricity still going to the fans while they are with no spinning youmay burn the fans.

It's like holding the break on a car while accelering at he same time. ( i dont know too many things about cars so shoot me if i am wrong ;) )

so if you are not sure , just do it for a long time and then touch the fans if they are hot or warm you may be having that problem and if you keep using it for a long time you my burn then .

SOMEONE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG

it shouldn't matter if you have them off for a long time..

they stop spinning but still receive 1.25 volts, do you think that will burnout the fans ??

u shouldnt use the baybus to turn off the fans, only to slow em down.if u want to shut em off buy a fanbus or make ur own

use 3 phase switches, make middle off, down 7v, and up 12v.. or return what u bought and get a digidoc 5

Yes. They will draw too much current.

The bus is limiting how much electricity goes to the fan by using resistors. The extra voltage is turned into heat from the resistors... (by definition of what a resistor is...) Many fans have a 7 volt start up minimum.

A switch is probably better as it will use the combo of the 3 wires (5v, 7v, 12v) to give a set amount of current, thus the fan will spin according to how much juice they are getting without producing the heat that a resistor does...(which is also wasting electricity... ;) )

That low of volts isn't really good for them, as it is just wasting electricity and producing heat...
Most fans will have a minimum amount of volts needed to start spinning. Check the specs on your fan...
I would say, lose the bus and just use switches that adjust the amount of current by using different combinations of the power wires coming from the supply...

thanks again all who posted with opinions, i think i will just try the bay bus for now , it is already bought and paid for so i might as well try it.

i will let you all know how it works in about a week.

have a nice weekend, i'm at my mom's house in gainesville and watching her kick some butt in soldier of fortune.

she really is not too bad in single player games :)
