I have a couple of full tower cases and inside at the bottom towards the front which I would guess you would call the grille are these black grooved "things", they look like some kind of slot for something but I cant think of anything they could be used for.
There are like 5 or 6 of them in a row on a metal standoff. They have no electrical connections. What the heck are these for? Wish I could describe them better or knew how to add a pic.
Where can I find answers to simple case questions like this so that I dont waste peoples time?
These are both AT cases if that helps.

i dont know how to do hyperlinks but if this can somehow take you to a pic on ebay you can see what im talking about in the lower right hand corner of the case.
ahhh...link does not work...it is item #2001402591 on ebay... at style server case...has a side view pic of case which you can expand and shows what i am talking about in lower right hand corner. i am so curious about this "thing"...what the heck is it for?

whats a gan mount?
hmmmm, GaN is a technology used in LED's...
I have blurred vision, but I believe if you look closely, the photos on ebay link are of 2 different cases...(look through the back slots of the middle pic... ;) )
Best guess to answer your question is it looks just like support mounts for long PCI or ISA cards...
or, perhaps a fan mount... (doubt it...)
maybe hidden internal drives...(doubt it...)

looking at my case here the board support mount theory makes the most sense...seems to align up almost but not quite... only thing is the board would need to be 14" long...did ISA boards ever get this big?....seems terrifically large...but i guess this was before surface mount chips

yeah, they were huge... that's what a "full-length+ISA card was.... that's why all the old 286/386 cases are huge, all the expansion cards were so long.
