sisoft sandra 2002 says that my cpu is at 61 degrees Celcius....i take it that thats a bad thing...i only have my cpu overclocked from 1.3 to 1.35....it just seems weird...and that air coming out doesn't feel that hot

yes!

that is hot.
feel your heat sink and see if it feels hot to the touch.
you need to get that temp down.

did you just assemble this system?

Holy crap.

Ok. Athlons tend to burst at 78C.

1. Take the side of your case off. ***and leave it off
2. Shutdown.
3. Get a small table top fan, put it on high and blow it on the area the heatsink is at for 5 - 6 minutes at a perpenducular angle with the mobo.

4. Take off your heatsink then clean the thermal spooge off it ONLY IF you have more left.

5. If you have a ton of thermal paste on the die, that could be acting as heat insulation. Take some off with a tissue, but DON'T press hard. Crack the core and you're SOL. Reattach heatsink.

Question 1. What's your heatsink brand / model. Same for motherboard?
Question 2. What brand of Thermal Paste do you have?
Question 3. How many fans do you have in there? Total amount please. Have any blow holes in the case?
Question 4. What type of case?

Comments - Your target range for something of that speed / OC ratio is about 40C on a full load (100% processor utilization).

Temp fix; Remember that fan you have from before? Sit that in your case and keep it on low. Watch your mobo monitor and monitor which direction seems to keep the CPU the coolest. Try a 45 degree angle, blow toward back of the case.

um...i think i have a cool max heat sink..i don't know the model number but i know that the heatsink is silver...my mobo is an asus A7V266....i have 2 fans...one intake one exhaust...my case has legs and i have it on those cuz there is this huge opening for air intake....i have a full tower atx case....i didn't put it together myself so i have no idea what kind of thermal paste is on there...but now i have unclocked it and put it to its original settings and it just droped to 59 degrees celcius....could sisoft sandra be reporting my temp wrong?...what r some other temp monitoring programs...i tried motherbosrd monitor 5 but it doesn't work on my system...like i said b4 i just ordered my pc and it came to me....but i got it from a very respectable company here in Canada called Touch Systems....and my case is huge...so there is pretty good airflow in there...and i really don't want to spend any more money just yet on a new heassink or fans, etc....plus i've never put together my own pc and i'm a little scared to take anything off or fool around with anything.

in my first post i said that i overclocked my pc from 1.3 to 1.35...i was wrong...i o/c it from 1.2 to 1.35...sorry...lol:)

On your Asus Motherboard CD, install Asus Probe. The best hardware monitor in my opinion.

You have a cheap heatsink, there's the problem. If they're a respectable company, see if they will do maintence work on it.

Of course, what could be your buget on a new heatsink and a couple dollars worth of Arctic Silver 2 thermal compound. (top quality industry best high content silver conductive paste)

I think it's time to lower your speed a little bit before you can figure out a solution. The easiest way to lower your temp a bit is to replace your current HSF with a better like. My Tbird 1Ghz is running at 29C now with 2 internet explorer open, Winamp, OUtlook express so it's not really loaded. I m using a Golbalwin FOP-38 and cools pretty well. :)

ok....i installed asus probe and i opened up my case and let the fan blow on it for a while...and my temp read 37 celcius...thats when i first turned on my pc...now its at 45 celcius and rising...this is all at idle with only IE running and msn messenger in the backround....

btw...my heatsink is a coolmax and the modle number is CM12V

now its at 48 celcius.....

The Sandra software does not have the right software to show the right CPU temprature , it looks that is incompatible with many motherboards ..

If i believe what is say ,my CPU works with 2 Celsius :D

lol...:rotfl:....ok...it went all the way up to 50 degrees and the rate at which the temp rose started to drcreas....now i have my fan blowing on my heatsink and asus probe reads...45 degrees celcius

do u have a link to that heatsink?

has anyone ever tried useing this http://12.229.149.4/wpcredit/wpcredit.htm ??

i can't find a product link anywhere.....www.newegg.com has a few heatsinks made by cool master but not the one that i have....but one of them does resemble the one that i have...i don't think its the same one though....

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp

its the 4th one down and then click "see it" u'll see the box that it comes in....then click "next image"..it looks similar to mine

i don't know what i did...but i got my cpu's temp down a bit....its around 51-21 degrees celcius at idle...and about 57 degrees at 100% cpu usage....its better than 61 degreeds at idle!

grab the program off that site and get your full load temp

I have a 1.4 and with a Coolermaster with PAPST fan on it I run with 1.85v core also with full load over 60C. So that I bought me a ZALMAN Copper hs/fan rd. 430gr. weight! Now running smooth about 50C :)==)

btw. I use Motherboartd Monitor 4.x!

sk6 on my 1ghz at 1.3 and its idle is 36 and load is 45

a swiftech mcx462 on my athlon 1800XP at 1.66 and its idle is 33 and load is 42

ocz vortex(basically the monster 2) on my duron800 at 1ghz idle is 38 load is 48

all temps in celcius, get a good HSF and u get good temps its that simple, all voltages are maxed out on all systems

ambient case temps are about 22 for the tbird and XP the duron is an open rig on my desk and its ambient is alot better cuz of that

so if ur in teh 50s u applied ur thermal paste wrong or not at all or ur heatsink sucks, thats all!!!

The Asus board reports a hotter tempture anyway...I'd not be concerned with 50c.

Just for comparison, this is my 1.4ghz T-bird @ 1.5ghz according to Asus Probe. Yes, the motherboard temp is that cold. :)

wow i guess i ought to try it then 'cause i am at 17 room , 30 case , 43.5 cpu at idle right now

i installed that prog at:
http://12.229.149.4/wpcredit/wpcredit.htm

and it brought my temp down from 53 to 48 degrees celcius at idle.....but now whenever i go to listen to music or anything that uses m sound card i get this crackling sound

i've got another question....the fan mounted on my heatsink....is it supposed to be blowing air onto the heatsink...or is it supposed to be blowing air away from the heatsink?

terrancelam
01-06-02, 07:08 PM
well it depends on the way yoru case is set up. If the reverse flow push air away from the cpu hs to a panel on the case which just reflects it back, then not much point in that, but it's all about the air flow. Some people say they have a 1c gain or loss from doing the reverse flow. I lost 3C by changing it, but then again I did it to work with the air ways of my case.

mvern2

how can u revers the direction of the way the fan blows?

had no problems so far :)

hey guys...i just got back from the comp store....they changed the heatsink on it and put an orb on it....with the case open its running at 50 C @ idle and 53 C @ full....with my fan blowing on my heat sink i got it down to 43 C idle...if i put the case on heat will build up and the mb and cpu temps will increase...was thinking of putting a vent on the side to draw some air in or blow hot air out....or should i just put in another exhaust fan at the back or on the top?

btw...i have a full tower case

m4a2t0t
01-09-02, 06:01 PM
id put another exhaust fan in it and id put it in the top if u can

any recomendations for a good exhaust fan?

I'm sure a cheapo would work fine and be almost silient. Your problem is a build up of heat, so a $4 80mm will do the trick. Just make sure you have enough of an intake of air as well, otherwise those cheapo fan cant pull air very well. A cheapo 80mm intake would be perfect.
