AGP Pro had been released in April 1999 to provide that necessary power and consequent cooling to a computer system. The AGP Pro Connector is fully backward compatible and offers additional pins at the front and the back of the connector.

Like the AGP slot, the AGP Pro slot comes in different versions, which are AGP Pro 3.3V, AGP Pro 1.5V and AGP Universal. The first two have blocking pins to prevent insertion of an unsupported AGP (Pro) card. All the motherboards with AGP Pro slot that we reviewed so far are using the AGP Pro Universal slot.

The current AGP slot can supply up to 25 W to the graphics card. With the two additional pins, PRSNT1# & PRSNT2# , the AGP Pro cards report its power requirements to the motherboard. An AGP Pro slot can provide a total of 50W or 110W.

I see , so is this a limitation factor for a motherboard , for the upcoming hardware ?

How many watts the damn GF3 uses ??

do you need AGP pro?

The only people I know using it right now are people with Oxygen Video cards( There's a extremely good way to waste $3000!)
and they use it for autocad and some serious graphic intensive stuff! Only professionals have used the AGP pro, it would be wasted on our petty games.

Sync, don't worry, they won't be making AGP Pro the standard. Untill games so real, you could have sworn you were dreaming come to be, that or "SimArchitect" come to reality, don't think it will be happening anytime soon.

AGPPRO is good, it cost too much to be put into mass production and is somewhat "old techology". They'll probably release a newer revision of the AGP Pro port or rearrange it totally. I'm expecting to see a new port for AGP in the next 2 years.

I'm thinking that will totally scrap the AGP idea totally in favour of newer 64bit port that isn't backwards compatible. This'll probably be in about 5 years from now.

So
AGPx4/Pro(Currently)----->AGP Pro Revision/Still backwards compatible(2003/04)------>New Graphics Port/64bit/ more bandwidth transfer and possbilities.(2006/07)

unless 3dfx comes back from the dead, don't hold your breath.. then we'll have vooBoo (on purpose w/ the B) 99's 10millions on our hands which require 110 watts of power from the mobo + have to be plugged into every outlet in your house, not to mention being 15 feet long w/ 32 VSA 1000.100000.01323.1000 chips and 128 ram dedicated to each one.. full PIXEL AA and maybe the entire VSA chip being programable silicon.. lol
