I would buy a slower processor and a better mobo. When I bought my combo I have now, I think it was YOS that suggested it. It was the best thing I had done in a long time! The mobo is more important in many cases then the speed of the cpu. Get a 1.4TB and the best mobo you can find. I remember I had a compaq perasario and I replaced the mobo, keeping all the same parts otherwise. It was almost 2x as fast and totally stable after the change.

Ecs makes decent mobo's, but if you're interested in a computer you can brag about and tweak; buy something better.

i'm getting xp1500+ & k7s5a for $308.80 CDN
dats like less then $200 usd

Overall, I wouldnt consider it better running on an ecs board though.

i'm sorry master hardware man, whats so much better about a 1.3ghz xp then a 1.4ghz tb? and why does a better mobo not interest u?

first of all i aint a lil computer nerd like u... so dont call me hardware master... second... i cant afford a better mobo... and now since my moms credit card got canceled i gotta wait a while before i can buy dat ****... cuz i can only order it by credit card

Yes, you can afford a better mobo. Simply buy a cheaper processor, i'm sure you wont notice the difference. However, you'll suffer through months of pain with a cheap mobo. Plus, you can still order now. Just try and get your mom to get a mastercard enabled atm card that is hooked to her checking account. Then, as long as you have the money saved already, you can order what you've saved up for.

the XP cpu's are new, so they are overpriced compared to the very nice TB's.

ya dude, listen to what these peeps are saying...motherboard is called motherboard for a reason....since it basically IS your computer, and controls everything.

I'd actually want to spend the $200 dollars or whatever you have, on just a high quality motherboard.

look at it this way....you can get the processor + a cheap SDR RAM board, with not good expansion or reliablity...then in 6 months, it will be old news

or get a kick ass quality motherboard, save up another 1-2 months, until you can afford a nice Athlon XP processor....and that will be sweet top quality for the next 6-12 months.

but if your not going to listen to members advice....why even bother man. We've told you what we KNOW will be better for you in the long run....yet you continue to disregard what we say....so do your own thing man, but dont cry to us when you come back saying "why isnt this working, or why isn't this fast like all the reviews I've read"

You don't have to get the best but you really should get a better one.

:/
well tb's are about the same price as xp's... the 1.4tb is even more expensive on most sites i can buy from since i live in toronto...i dont upgrade my computer alot anyway... i'm still runnin my p2 350 wit the p2b 440bx mobo which i bought like 2 years ago
what's a decent motherboard i could get for the xp1500? maybe i'll pay a bit more then for the k7s5a...

The ECS board is pretty stable. Really stable actually. It's not the best overclocker but it's a good board, especially for its $64 pricetag. It beats the AMD 760 which costs more. The SiS735 is less than half of the Via KT266a's price and a LOT cheaper than many of the other chipsets. I know somebody who's running a ME machine with a 1.4GHz XP. No probs.

I'm thinking of getting a combination of both mobo and CPU but a lil low on cash...thinking of getting the Abit KG7 but if i were to buy that then I'd have very lil left for CPU...what's the slowest CPU that can run on that mobo?:rotfl:

ok first off where are u buying from cuz a 1.4tb is half of what an XP chip costs that i've seen, sorry about the master hardware sarcasm it sounded like u were taking the know-it-all route, again sorry.

Look around for a mobo/proc bundle. Probably save $20-30 US.

check out www.ubid.com for their combo deals....they've got some excellent stuff....last time I looked, they have had like 1.2Ghz, 256MB, 32MB Geforce 2 MX, plus a Shuttle motherboard, for $200 or less.....great to start a new system...

you can throw a Duron in a KG7 though, I wouldn't suggest it...
paying $120 for a mobo to put a $40 proc in it..
unless you just want to get going with a Duron and later upgrade it to a TBird or XP Proc

Exactly my man! ^_^
That's exactly what i'm planning to do since I have a shortage of cash...and I might as well spend it on a Mobo since it's the most important component!;)

That's exactly what I did cookiekid, no regrets at all. I still havent upgraded my cpu because I've been happy with it, so I've been dropping my money in other hardware areas. Good choice!

skill, i suggest against that way but what heatsink u gonna get?

cookie kid, great way to go man, u can find duron 800s pretty cheap, like 35-40 bucks, or u can look for a 900mhz duron morgan(i think theres a 900mhz version, if not forget it) that u might get to about 1.3 or so if saving up for the XP chip is tough.
