Will hardware and software gurus change.
I would like to the end of the 640k base and upper memory
for loadind misc. stuff. make it 2 or 4 megs.
everything is going forward but the this aspect.
Its one option I would like to change. Come on
its the Ti-80 on every comp. Lets take advantage
of ram prices and make a change. Of course it screws
proggie's that wouln't support it. My drunken thoughts.

Well...that was DOS...can't change it....so any OS based on DOS (Win3.1, Win95, Win98, and WinME) you were stuck with that. But since Win95...no devices loaded in conventional memory unless you needed to run your computer in DOS mode (DOS sound support, DOS cd-rom support, DOS NIC drivers).

But with Windows NT 4, 5(2K, and 6 (XP)....tis all gone.

So to answer your question, "Will they change", end of this month they will have, since XP home and pro is replacing 9X and 2K)

Install Windows NT 4 or Windows 2000 or Windows XP and you will not have this DOS limitation because these OS's are true 32bit OS's and do not rely on DOS.

However Win 3.1, Win95, Win98, WinME do rely on DOS and have this 640K mem problem, it's a DOS limitation, hence your 'resources' in Win9x
