View Full Version : Lock Ups

I recently installed a 40 gig hard drive and an upgraded bios to support it. Before I put in the new bios I had EZ bios installed because my old bios wouldn't support large HD's. After I installed the new bios and removed (I think) EZ bios, I started getting lock ups when the computer was idle and always when I try to shut down.
The computer is a P166 running Win98. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bob

Did you check the new settings of the bios.
Power settings. If its ok I would flash the bios again.
Here is problem I've incountered. bought a 6 gig mode 4
drive. It was a used drive. It was really a mode 2 drive.
That was my problem. Check your hd settings. You
maybe able just use mode 2. check the hard drive mfg on your drive so you can adjust transfer rate. thats nfo!

so are you saying you had ez drive on the 40gig drive, then you installed a new bios and deleted ez drive off the same drive without re-formatting your hdd?

Yes, that's right, I didn't reformat. Should I have?
