Question about InnoculateIt updates.

Hey folks, I have a quick question about InnoculateIT anti-virus updates. I've used it for a couple of years now. Every month or so I get new virus definitions from their site.

So, I have update after update, each one being comprehensive. Can I start deleting some of the older virus definitions, since each new one covers all of the old viruses and new ones?

Does that make sense? Just wondering, I know the updates aren't that large.

Yes, you can delete the old updates and just keep the newest one which has the new ones plus the previous updates. And actually, I use Innoculate IT also and they update there definitions a couple of times a week, so maybe you should check more than once a month :)

I could be wrong, but, I don't think that you need to keep the update files that you download weekly. Once the download finishes it notifies you that the files have been updated. Just leaving the AUPXXX.exe update file in the folder would not do anything for you.

Before deleting them, wait to hear from someone else as I could be wrong. I delete them right after it updates and have no problems and I am told that i have the most updated files.

Support Question/Issue When the download of an update is done is the previous update kept as a separate file or is the one file updated? If there are separate files can the earlier updates be removed? I was unable to find any reference to this in FAQ's.

The short answer from CAI is yes and here's how.....

Thank you for your email. After you have installed the virus updates, you
can delete the update files. The files will be called ipeupxxxx.exe (where
the xxxx relates to the update number.)

Why ever not????
CAI are a major company who are interested in all users of their products (and the answer is No, I don't work for them) and any difficulties experienced with their freeware could be experienced by their paying customers.
I don't know about the States but down here their payfor products are used by big business and Government.

InnoculateIT doesn't Tailor make your Update. They give you the whole file each time. May only have 1 or 2 new AV dats in it.

Since Bob from Podunk may not have updated in 6 months, they send the whole file with the update. Is more expedient for them.

So, previous 'update files' are Redundant.

Is OK to delete them. Should get 2-3 updates per week.

Well, you can either use a Photoshop type proggie and do all the animation yourself, upload it to a site, then link to it...

or

Do a search for animated gif's, find the one you like, right click and select properties, highlight the address, then go to

and look at the title "Displaying images."

Put your image address in between the tags.

Oh, and all this goes in your signature.

I use it too and the updates are mostly about 1/2 meg and I delete them right after every download per inoculate themselves.

OK, just to make sure I'm getting this right.

After doing an update, I can delete all updates EXCEPT for the most recent one. Correct?

According to CAI the answer to deleting the updates is yes. To be careful I am holding onto the most recent update and as part of the update procedure will go in and delete the superceded one.

Just as a side issue for all dialup members.... those animated GIF's are a PITA aren't they. Talk about slowing down the page loading.

As for your subtle hint, is the dragon as bad as some of the other ones, or worse?

I have DSL so most sigs aren't a problem, but didn't think it was that large of a gif.

Awww, I don't mind them really. I have saved a few and attach them to appropriate emails. When you go to a thread with a heap of them it just slows the page opening that's all.
DSL is out of reach at the moment so it's really my problem.
