Please at least read about it and give it some consideration, you never know, one of your loved ones may get a disease that we caould help to find a cure for...

Okay, I just installed it as "Seed of Chaos (Speedguide.net Team)".

For those of you who installed it under a different name (team), you can edit the name in the file "client.cfg"

Hopefully we'll beat those diseases anytime soon http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif

Way to go Bro's! Let's fold ssome protiens and kick some a$$! Use the console version as the screen saver is said to have some bugs in it. I know of a work around so that it can constantly run in the background, that way the DOS window doesn't sshow.

Thank's guys!

Come on Speed Guiders, it only runs when you are not using your puter. I am still at 88% resources. It uses less than 2% on my puter!!! <2%!!!! What kind of sacrifice is that???? http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/confused.gif

Let's GO, download the console version and lets ROCK!!!!! http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif

JANDOENT,

I just got home from work and installed it. How do you make it run in the background without the DOS Screen showing?

DIDS
01-25-01, 01:23 PM
To Join Speedguide.net Team:

1. You have 2 choices of programs to use:
One is a screensaver and will run only in screensaver mode.
The other is a DOS console client that runs continuously.

Screensaver (latest version) - Download (http://foldingathome.stanford.edu/winsaver120.exe)

Console Client (latest version) - Download (http://foldingathome.stanford.edu/winclient120.exe)

Now, after the download is complete, open it:

It will then prompt you for your name (see image)

http://home.twcny.rr.com/dids/Folding_Setup.jpg

Mine Looks Like This:

http://home.twcny.rr.com/dids/Folding_Setup1.jpg

It is very important to enter the team name EXACTLY
as it appears in this picture. If you capitalize the wrong
letters, or misspell, you won't receive credit for your work.

Obviously substitute your name for whatever you want.
Just make sure that (Speedguide.net Team) is placed
after your name. Make sure you place the team name in
parenthesis as shown in the picture above.

After you have entered your name, just click "next"

You are now a Speedguide.net Team Member!

Way to go everyone!!
Mike, the program is kinda like seti, you let your puter help fold proteins to possibly discover cures for diseases. you can stop it or just let it run. Me, I won't shut mine down as it only uses 2% of my resources. I think that I can spare that much for humanity...

I have just started learning about it, but I had some veins rupture yesterday in my eye that has the blood clot behind it, so I am really having a hard time to see now.
I will get some more info together and post some helpful hints tonight in a bit.

DIDS, Thanks a lot for posting the info, I was gone most of the day at the doctors and am just now regaining enough site in my good eye from being dialated. Please give me a little patience as my head is killing me from the bright lights used in some of the tests the Doctor performs...

YEA, I am moving more units than anyone else on speedguide.net! I think we should have a competition of who can move the most units. More units moved= that much closer to saving a life. Ok what I remember from last nite (this is killing me I can't find it).........

I need to find that program Pearl for windows
get that installed......then install that Neptune Program and configure that to run with fold@home

It's sorta like seti spy and seti driver but for Folding @home....

Pearl for windows is a program that you install in windows....And it lets you run programs that were made for Linux...Been around for awhile so it should be stable.

Ok .....From what I've found so far Need to download Pearl for windows........PEARL is a Linux Program that you install in windows.....It lets you run programs in Windows that were meant for linux........It's been around for awhile so it should be pretty stable......Then you download Neptune

Neptune
<http://www.teameggroll.com/dev/neptune/neptune.zip>
Another application to make life a bit easier. Because folding@home work units cannot be cached and queued, and the folding@home server is not the most reliable server, I wrote Neptune, an app that creates multiple directories and instances of folding@home, thereby slowing down the processing of work units, without precisely caching them. The app was named after Neptunes, a personality in the Ars Technica Distributed Computing Forum

<http://www.teameggroll.com/arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?q=Y&a=frm&s=50009562&f=122097561>
, who came up with the original idea of running multiple instances of folding. I have yet to use this program extensively myself, however, I will begin using it myself, as I have a laptop that is only connected some of the time. If you bug <mailto:hanser@teameggroll.com> for any more additional information or anything, I will break your legs. You have been warned.
Known Bugs:
When running Neptune for the first time, the client.cfg is not copied correctly. This results in all work units being credited to cs-sdk, a default account for all untraceable work units. I am working on this now, please give me a bit of time.
In the works:

This gives some more info.

ok, i never downloaded perl or anything, but i got neptune to work(by renaming a file), kinda. i can answer all the questions correctly, but when it asks me how many instances do i want to run, i say 2, and it will bring up 2 windows of the original neptune program, not folding@home. how do i get it to bring up f@h?

Who has the SETI@home thing running at the same time here??

jdblitz:
What kind of cooling setup do you have on your system? Is it loud? I turn off the fans when I run over night because I don't like the noise when I sleep, then my CPU temperature goes up to 49 and MB around 40. But if I have the fan running, the CPU temperature hovers around 37 and MB around 30. I have CUSL2 with ASUS PC Probe reporting this to me, v2.12.07. I have 1 fan blowing in from the side of the case; I cut the case. I have 2 fans on the back of the case, blowing air out.

Anybody here knows of a NIC card that is a good overclocker? Right now, my FSB bottle neck is my NIC, so without a faster NIC, I can't fully overclock my CPU to the max. I'm using Netgear FA310TX. The highest I can set my PCI bus is 36MHz.

I'm running cable modem so NIC is pretty crucial for me.

Thanks for any information.

OK, I'm in now too. I wanted to wait a few days to see how this ting works and to do a little reading here of what people think. My name is mikemean406 (Speedguide.net Team)
Oh, and I am running SETI@Home and Folding@Home at the same time, so that should be ok shouldn't it?

Question! Does the folding program have to have server rights in zone alarm?

Charlie

No it doesn't need server rights. You initiate contact with their server. They do not initiate contact with you. So in ZoneAlarm you only need to give it Internet access. Server rights are only need if you want someone to be able to contact your system without you initiating the contact.

Wow, the "Similar Threads" at the bottom of threads is really cool. :D This was the original thread from when we first started the Folding Team here at SpeedGuide! :D

A bit of SG History for you! (Pay attention as one day we may have a SpeedGuide Trivia Game with prizes!) :D

Can anyone identify the thread starter? :D :p

Hey Illini,

Wow. Nostalgia. I think it was another month before I signed up. Been fun ever since. So many things are different since then. The changeover from FAH1 to FAH2 being one of the biggies.

We left all of our old stats behind which would be what these days? A few days worth of points now if even that much?

Back to lurking.

Brad

Edit: See, I have not even changed my old avitar that Chris made me (It was you right Chris?) back from the FAH3 days. :)
