Netmeeting and Linksys BEFSR41

Anyone suceeded in getting netmeeting to work without using DMZ?

can you please tell what ports you forwarded if you have and if what firmware level you are running on it...

BTW: I'm really loving this box. fast cheap, no problems with the switch, easy setup to get FTP on port 911 and PC Anywhere running with port forwarding and I downloaded the TZO Dynammic DNS and its been working well...

BTW: If netmeeting doesn't work can anyone recommend some video conf software than can? Any opinions on which cam for video conf and cable modem with 500KBPS max upstream.

From what I've read from Linksys themselves, timhiggins.com, etc. NetMeeting will only work if you set the computer you are using into the DMZ.

However, I DID READ somewhere (can't recall where) that if you connect to a NetMeeting directory server FIRST, and others wanting to connect to you find you in the directory, it may work. Apparently, this is because YOU initiate the application by logging in to the server. In contrast, if you simply launch NM and don't log in to a server, and want someone to join you at your IP, it may not work. Hosting by going thru a server may work....worth trying. Wish I could remember where I read that!

Alternatives? Well, I haven't read (yet) of anyone trying Roger Wilco while using a Linksys. RW has some info on their site regarding firewalls (open port 3782). My hunch is to JOIN a conversation, you won't have to do anything if the Linksys senses the port to open automatically. However, if you HOST a conversation, you'd need to manually forward port 3782 to the computer on your lan you wish to use for RW.

If yer not familiar with it, RW is a telephony program like NetMeeting but is less demanding on yer system. It's widely used by people who talk with each other while playing games like Quake or Tribes, etc.

In my opinion, it works better than NetMeeting, plus allows you to connect to several people at a time to be in a group chat (vs only one on one with NetMeeting).

Anywayz, might be worth trying.
