need a good NIC

Im about to buy a new NIC because im unhappy with the cheap SMC 1208 that @home gave me. I would like to spend no more then $50 for the new card. Please give me your recomendations on the fastest most reliable NIC in this price range. Are the big named NICs like 3COM and Intel really better or do some of cheaper NICs have what it takes to compete with the big boys?

Well I have good experience with the RealTek cards and the 3coms but the 3coms have dual tasking chipsets which make them a little faster. you can get one of these from like pricewatch.com for around that price.

You should be able to easily find either a DLINK or C-NET 10/100 PCI NIC for under $35.

I have bought several from a local mom and pop shopt for ~$20 each
