Please advise me. I have orders that need to ship. My Brother JFC 870 DW refuses to print, and even after I removed he black ink and put it back in. Says "Can't detect any ink" but I can see ink in the cartridge. It's a 3rd party ink cart that I was told would be good for 3000 pages. It's telling me to use only Brother ink cartridges. Is there anything I can do?

I have a brand new black ink of the same brand but I kind of hate to throw away the old ink, it's not all used yet. I never even had any pages printing in lighter ink. It's just refusing to print and telling me I'm out of ink. Brother's way of selling more ink.

... It's a 3rd party ink cart

That's been our experience from clients that try those 3rd party ink cartridges.
So clean the printer well, put in its own brand official cartridges, and problem goes away.

OK

A lot of them have a chip that would detect aftermarket cartridges and refuse to work... On some, you can pull out the chip from an OEM original/spent cartridge easily, and put it on the aftermarket one. This depends on your model though, just a suggestion.

Hmmm. I think I still have that cart around here bc I save them for recycling. That's worth a try.

What I ended up doing is installing a brand new 3rd party black ink cart I had on hand, and it's working again and printing very well. I worked for 2 or 3 months after I started getting low ink warnings.
