Please take a moment to answer this post. I'm trying to figure out the download corruption problem that alot of people are experiancing.

What I would like to know is:

1) Does your router work fine?

If not:

2) Do you have corrupted downloads?

3) Is there a certain size where they always get corupted?

4) What have you done to correct this problem? MTU? RWIN?

Please take a moment to let me know if yours is fine or not.

Thank you very much!
Tom

MOST OF THE TIME.

If not:

2) Do you have corrupted downloads?

YES. INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE TROUBLE SENDING LARGE PACKETS OF DATA VIA A WEB PAGE (> APPROX. 10k). CAN SEND E-MAILS OF ANY SIZE, HOWEVER. CUTE FTP, WS FTP TIMES OUT AFTER A LOT OF DOWNLOADING.

3) Is there a certain size where they always get corupted?

HARD TO MEASURE. BUT SENDING DATA VIA WEB PAGE APPROX OVER 10k

4) What have you done to correct this problem? MTU? RWIN?

I'VE TRIED MTU, RWIN, NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK.

Please take a moment to let me know if yours is fine or not.

Thank you very much!

No problems here on downloading. I have a Linksys 10mb home-network/phoneline nic. Using the ethernet port of course. I am not much of an Icq file sending user, so I have not tried that yet, although I have heard many a problem with that. I have tried all the patches on Speedguide, and none of them had any effect on my downloads, all of them were fine.Really the only problem I have is getting a game server to show up on Gamespy. Purchasing an additional Ip, and running a dedicated machine probably would be better anyways for that. I love this router, only because I have not had any of the problems others have had. Maybe when I start using the router with other apps it may change, to where I get some unforseen problems. I have ran a webserver with no problems, I have tried an Ftp server for testing purposes only with no problem. I have sent email in different email proggies with no problem. Actually on the Ftp side of it, noone has actually downlaoded from the Ftp, I was just testing the forwarding on the router. So if they would get corrupted files on their end, I have no idea. The other computers on my router are my 2 kids, who don't download much. They can connect to Aol through it, and the Instant messenger deal works fine. Believe me I would hear about it if it didn't by my daughter http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif. Good luck on getting help, the problems are there, and maybe somebody on here will get some answers before Linksys will.

Thank you for answering. I'm hopeing to get a few more to post to this. Especially uses that have had no problems with the router. So far I've only found that it has some problems.

I've read a few different fixes that I'll probably try tonight.

Thanks again,
Tom

Installed it about a weeka go. Works great and generally have had none of the problems I've seen posted here. I made a couple of the modifications to optimize the connection (found on Navas Cable Modem -DSL Tuning Page: http://navasgrp.home.att.net/tech/cable_dsl.htm)
and noticed a pretty good bump-up in performance. (I just downloaded a 12mb HP JetDirect firmware upgrade file in what was a bit of a shock that is was done so fast.)

I downloaded/installed the Linksys firmware upgrade. Install worked on the first try, no problems during or since.

I am having one problem configuring IP addresses. I cannot seem to get an IP address configured between the router (DHCP Server) and my HP750c+ DesignJet Plotter w/HP JetDirect server/network connection. The plotter is configured to accept an IP address at powerup/logon. But when the plotter completes its power up/initialize and network logon (router lights sequence), the plotter always has its default IP address. I've gone through the entire install of the Router 3 times and the Plotter 4 times. The DHCP Client List has never showed more that one client, my PC (total of 3 on p-to-p ntwk, +hp750c).

Yet through all of this the hp750c has worked flawlessly, dispite these IP address problems, with AutoCAD 2000 (HP750C installed as a Windows 98SE system printer.) Like the plotter all the PC's have also worked flawlessly on the network since their first installation.

Suggestions?

Just got it today. Set it up and configured it in 5 minutes. Up graded the firmware to version 1.22. Works great, no problems.

I've been experiencing download corruption also. It's a very frustrating problem that I have been unable to solve, or even speculate on the cause. Upgrading to the v1.23 firmware seemed to make the problem *significantly* worse. I'm back to the v1.22 firmware now.

I read that and "may" have experianced that same problem with Ver 1.23.

Thank you all for the input so far.

For those of you with problems read the post http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/003665.html .

Read both pages.

Thanks,
Tom

I really didn't have the corrupted downloads problem before; after I "upgraded" to firmware 1.23, I began seeing this. Maybe I'll go back to 1.22 for now.

Corrupted/truncated files on FTP uploads. Consistently 20% of the time.
Both firmware 1.22 and 1.23.
Removed the router from system and now no problems.
Won't re-install without a fix.
------------
Changing MTU to 1472 fixed this.

So far, no good.
I took my old reliable Linux box down, gave my old hub to my neighbor and purchased a cable\dsl router. It's been a nightmare!
"CRC" errors and file transfer errors, 90% of the time. On a positive note, it takes up less space on my desk. I throw it out, but the lights look so pretty!

I flashed to the 1.23................experienced corrupted downloads. Flashed back to 1.22................still experiencing corrupted downloads. Didn't have a single corrupted file until upgrading to 1.23. Now, even after flashing back to 1.22............I am getting them. I thought upgrading is supposed to cause less problems, which I know is not true in most cases. I guess I will have to download some files many times in order to get a working one. What the F is in the router that a flash would start causing a problem, when I didn't have one in the first place, and a downgrade flash will not correct it?

I Can't get it to grab an IP from adelphia. I have tried everthing. Works great as a hub. I do not know how it works as a router because I can't seem to get it working with adelphia in south florida.

Because I returned my Linksys for the Netgear RT311 I can't ansewr the survey based on new experience... other than the Netgear, for me, has removed all problems.

For people with download problems flashing to 1.23 and back to 1.22

Look for "Block Wan Requests"

Firmware 1.23 enabled this by default.
If you flash back to 1.22 it stays enabled.
I found Diabling the blocking helpped some of my problems, but not all of them.

Like I said all of my problems were solved by the Netgear RT311 router.

Your actual milage may vary pertaining to your surfing conditions-

I, too, returned my Linksys for a Netgear. If you don't want to deal with Linksys' quirkiness, then the Netgear is for you.

I installed the router "almost" flawlessly. Did not use the software that came with router. I do a ton of downloading. Sometimes when I download my router/internet connection dies intermittently. My "fix" has been to use only 1 of the switch ports on the Linksys router and for the other several computers I have I bought a 16 port 10/100 autoswitching hub by 3-com. Also I'm on a cable modem connection. Haven't done any software upgrades to the router yet. I'm running 3 windows 2000 advanced servers(550mhz, 350mhz, and 400mhz celeron) each with 256 (minimum Microsoft recommended ram for advanced server) megs of pc 100 ram. I have 1 redHat linux server 96 meg ram and one redhat Linux workstation. 2 windows 2000 pro workstations...and 3 win98 workstations. The router is pushing ip via dhcp. I run a small oracle database and Exchange server and sms all at my "home". For hobby & training purposes!!!!!!

For the price I think you can't go wrong with the Linksys router. Eventually I want to buy 2 cisco routers and get really fluent in cisco ios and networking. Yes I am a computer professional. http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/wink.gif

So yes its worth it weight for the price. I give it a thumbs up!!
