My gaming experience with DSL + Network

2 pc's networked....640k dsl line
When Im gaming I get like 60-70 ping
When Im gaming + roommate goes on + downlaods something my pings shoot up
to 500-800 with phonejacks in quake....

Thats what happens to me...
Any ideas would be helpful...to improve my gaming while he downloading

Thats to be expected. If you had a really nifty DSL router that would allow you to set Max speeds you could limit your friend, and reserve some bandwidth for yourself...
Anyone have the Linksys router (or similar) and know if it on its own does a good job of bandwidth sharing?
