Hello, I am a new cable modem user and have been online gaming on 56k modem prior...
UT is causing me great grief with outragous pings from the great of 50 to well over 1000!
This is very much like the days of playing Q2 and not having capped the cl_maxfps to "30" or so. This would cause great swings in the ping time. However, there is something else that needs to be done here. I have tried the patch available on this site which tweaks the registry but with no success. I have tried tweaking netspeed & maxclientrate in UT and no success. I just read another post about changing the NIC to half duplex for the same situation. I will go home tonight and try it. Can anyone else shed some light on this. Quake 3 seems to be just fine playing online. No where near the incredible spikes in ping latency... Help! Thank you in advance for any help....My cable modem is a COM 21...Two way service...
