Currently I have knology cable tv and net via coax and its advertised at 10M down and 1M up, even paying the extra $15/ mo fee the max I get is 3.3M down and 0.3 up (and the 0.3 up is enough to lag you out of competitiveness for most first person shooters by the way!)

So up walks a lady selling ATT uverse that says I can get fiber optic to my home starting at 12M down and 1.5M up. What are the real data transfer rates that folks get with this? I don't see any way to search by provider and I want to see if making the switch is worth all the hassle.

I got U-Verse installed in Sept of this year, I got the 18 meg package, and I get about 17.8 megs on download tests.

The neighborhood "node" that the fiber runs to is 1x block diagonally across the street from me, with U-Verse, it's a hybrid fiber/DSL type...fiber from the phone company local CO to the node box (I forget that actual name of that node box), and then it's copper pair from that node box to your house. So I only have about 250 feet of copper...thus hardly any performance drop.

I love it, great TV package too, picture is very clear, the DVR anywhere in the home is great.

Sounds like you need to troubleshoto your cable connection. You should be getting much more.

Hi Welcome to Speedguide.. I'm just lurking in the thread here, I'm in Northeast Columbia. The only thing I can get in my area here is TimeWarner cable and I was lucky to get 13 MB down from them.

If the "glass" that you are able to get, was available in my area, I would grab it up.
