Hi, im new in forum and have a big ? about RS, I am on cable modem, and when i go into Rogue Spear and hit the multiplayer button, It either hangs for about 30 seconds or goes to the next screen instantly. if it hangs i cannot create game, but i can manual join a game. If i try it just crashes, I can sit at that same screen forever so i have to hit ctrl-alt-del and it says (rogue spear not responding). Other times (not very often),i can go right into it and host no problem. I am not running through a proxy server, I've had the cable people out here several times to tweak connection. (I can download at up to 300K\s at times )I have reinstalled rs and the patches many times . ( I've even formatted and reinstalled win98se twice!)Two days ago i was hosting (amazing I know )and right after about 6 games when the game was loading a mission ,i got bumped right to my desktop(thought to myself ,what the &#$&)I then tried to rehost and nothin doin again. I have been on the zone in the forums with techs and they can't help . I know there is many brilliant people out there that may be able to help me out. Hope I'm in the right place. thanx in advance for any suggestions>

I was having similar problems, but I found for some reason it was still trying to use my modem to dial up? So my first question is do you still have a modem in your pc? Then is so I know have you checked to make sure the direct connect to the internet is checked and not the dial up in th multiplayer settings? Then next time you try launching if you can after it hangs do a ctrl+alt+del then see if there is a rnaap or something like that in your task manager. If you do see this program in there it is still trying to dial up. I was able to solve my problems by checking to see if your Browser is set never dial connection? If not do so and that should fix your problem. If this is too in depth I can shorten it just let me know.

Thanks for your reply :-). I dont have a modem in my computer and so when i go into my browser there is no choice to "never dial connection"it is greyed out so i faked it and installed a 56k modem then put in to never dial connection, but to no avail. I hit ctrl-alt-del in the hanging phase and the only things running are rogue, explorer, and systray, much to my dissapointment. If i release my ip it goes in just fine but at that point i am not on the internet. alot of good that does :-), I appreciate your response.

I also had this problem and found the cure for me! I was running Zone Alarm and each time I would enter the multi player screen it would lock up tight! my cure was to uninstall the zone each time I want to host or just turn it off to play without hosting.
Either way it must be off! Hope this might be of help to you! But I did not read if you have a firewall prog or not!
