There's an interesting update on that on http://grc.com/downloaders.htm . It is true, Those download accelerators (and also GoZilla!!!) do spy on you! Steve Gibson did some research on that with a packet sniffer, and yes, those programs send your IP, a unique user ID given to you during installation of the software (so they can track you if your IP changes....), the complete urls of the files you download, your windows username, time and date, and so on...
Neat, huh?
