View Full Version : Build a DSL/Cable ISP info database

I think as more choices become available, there should be an easy place to look up Pro's and Con's of each provider.

For example which offer static IP's, offer hosting web space. Which allow servers. I would also like to see people list traceroute listings to see who has less latency. Pricing options, contract lenghts could also be listed. Some ISP's provide web access to email and other only POP3/SMTP (or both).

In general the RR's and @Home will get different config's under different Cable system.

Even on DSL, can any of the other CLECs offer better service then the local telco when it's their CO and wires?

Because of this I see hundreds of praises and complaints for the same offering and I don't know who's right or wrong.

RIght now, I just tried hooking up DSL with Verizon for the free 30 days. I few things I like but overall, I'll stick with my cable modem. It would have been nice to find topic groups for each local ISP.

You're right. I never looked at the site link. But they still lack info like which DSL provider uses PPPoE, pricing, speed options, contract requirements, static IP's. I also wanted to know if some of these guys just resell you Verizon DSL or
they co-locate their equipment in your local CO and can provide better service then the local Telco.

They are not always accurate though, as you would expect, but this isn't that big of a deal b/c after finding a provider you will probably want to contact them to get the specifics and see if there are any promos.
