Hi, me again. I want to know if it is possible for me to upgrade my Dell P2 450mhz, 128megs SD Ram to a P3 or Athalon.? Would I need a new motherboard? Change my Ram and Video Card? Re-formatt my HD when I do upgrade? Hope someone can give me some info on what do when upgrading your CPU, thanks.

The PIII and K7 processors have different voltage requirements than the PII. That and BIOS requirements disclude a simple chip swap. Dell and most all the major brands have propriety motherboards and cases for their machines. However, you could buy a generic case and motherboard and move your cards, drives and memory over. Then add the processor of your dreams (RAM speed may provide some limitation though). Mind you, you run into problems if components are built into the Dell Motherboard. For instance, if the graphic or sound board are built into the Dell 'board, you would have to buy those cards to add to your new motherboard (unless you find a board with those features built in... they are usually not recommended).

A motherboard and case typically runs from 100 to 200 dollars at most computer shows on
in the northeast..

If I missed anything, please ask or someone else jump in!!

I don't see why you couldn't put a PIII in there... U'd have to check out how fast of one you can put in your mobo tho, as for the Athlon you can't put a Slot A chip in a Slot 1 mobo.
