View Full Version : Athlon 500 vs. 650

I have the option of getting an Athlon 500MHz, or the 650MHz for another hundred bucks. Only the guy says they are basically the same. He told me the biggest difference is the jump up to the 700MHz. So is there a big enough diff. between the 650 and 500 that is worth my hundred bucks? What is your opinion?

myself i dont think you'll see a big difference between the two.i'm running the 500 w/the fic sd11 w/128 meg of ram on one system and i also have a k63 450 w/ the fic 2013 mb /2meg on board ram with also 128 megs of ram and to be honest this system runs halflife and unreal tourn better.the video card on my sons{450} is a 4meg 128 velocity with the 12 meg voodoo 1000. i have the voodoo 3000 on the 500.from what i've read if you go up to the 700 then you would see a big difference.sorry about the looong post!!! have a nice day, curtis

Plus, the 500 can be overclocked to 650, anyway

But to keep ahead, the 650 could be clocked to......?

They are trying to sell you the Athlon 650 for an extra 100 bucks????

BTW go for the 650, if it's like 20 bucks more, it's worth it. If they charge you any more from the original price ( which would be nice to know), don't buy it. BTW I wouldn't go for the 500..it might be a K6-3 or K6-2.

For $100 you can get an Athlon XP 1800+ or even something faster than that (CPU by itself, of course) ... that's all I have to say...
