Most sets which are 1080i have a 720 line screen. The 1080i is converted to 540p and upsampled to 720.
The higher the res, the closer you can sit, enhancing the immersion into the scene.

I believe that Vizio and Westinghouse have acceptable 47in sets in the aforementioned price range.

I just figured i might do it right at 1080P. Don't plan on buying another tv for a long time... I mean i might go 720p if the Quality is good. Im the type of person that if i see a flaw in the TV, ill go nuts...

How far back from the TV do you plan on sitting?

I agree....did a bit of research last winter...picked up a Westy 42 myself. Never topping the charts, it did manage to garner quite a bit of "bang for the buck" mentions. Pleased with mine.

Researching this really sucks... I really want a store local so i can pick it up and always return it if its damaged. But its hard to determine what a good tv is there...
