I loaded the pair into my main machine.....

HDTach 3.0.4.0

My Raptor 74GB averaged in the mid sixties.

This is just a single drive.

It is through a SI 3114 RAID... though not in RAID mode.

A8N-deluxe motherboard.

Ah. Dont you also have Nvidia raid on that board? I think you would get around 200MB/sec then for burst cuz the 3114 isnt 3gigabits a sec I dont think.

It is the premium SLI board.

It has the two RAIDs.

I just checked the drives on the other controller. Indeed, bursts over 200, but the reads average in the mid fifties. (WD 320 and WD500)

Thats too bad, looks like the intel chipsets are the only onboard option for full use.

nice speeds David, man those drives are sweet.

just for comaparison here is my ultra 320 SCSI on a regular PCI slot 320 card no raid, when i upgarde to quadcore i am getting a PCI-X or whatever raid card for the full effect, to not be limited by the PCI bus.

PCIe you mean? carefukl when you pick a board, need to make sure that if the RAID card is PCIe x4 or x8 that you can run teh PCIe at that speed in a single video card solution.

I will run another test this evening with the 1TB on the NVRAID controller.

BTW... it formats as 931GB.

OK.... I needed one more.

I purchased an external 1TB from Best Buy today for 279 on sale. It was a simple task to remove it from its plastic shell.

Alas, I have some breathing room again.
