I need some advice on what processor I should buy for a gaming rig.I 'm currently using a 2.8ht intel.I think I'm going to switch to AMD which I don't know much about. I don't want to spend alot on the cpu but I want something to run my games w/ no problems. Thanks for any advice.

depending on your gaming habits any Intel Core 2 Duo chip should be fine ...most are very affordable which should save you some pennies to direct toward a quality video card.....not much out there now that supports both cores depending on what types of games you play, anyway.....invest in the graphics card and RAM IMO :thumb:

Hmm so is Pentium D crap like celeron? Also what would a 2.2 or 2.4 intel duo do me any justice in games like bf2 ?Its been a while since I have updated my comp so I'm a complete noob to the duo processors.

I like AMD, but dont know much about dual core. Do you already have a video card? if so that will dictate what how much cpu. If your trying to build a new gaming rig start with the vid card and build the system around it to get max performance without wasting money on a higher and unnecessary cpu

No the "D" is not crap, it's just an older designed..it's been replaced by the newer Core 2 Duo, which is, IMO, best bang for the buck right now. Combined with a 965 chipset...you get excellent overclocking goodness.

ATI 1650 isnt the great card in teh world thats for sure.

Core 2 duo plus a 8800GTS is a sweet combo right now.
