View Full Version : Best RAID0 Stripe Size
Everywhere you read you find a different opinion.. Some say 16-32kb is the best all-around stripe size. On the other hand, many would argue that 64-128kb is the best. I'm getting my motherboard back from an RMA in a little while, and with that I'll be recreating my RAID0 array using two 74GB raptors.. That said:
What size stripe do you use, and why did you chose it?

i've used 64k and 128k, 64k was faster for me in benches, about the same for overall use though.
Pretty sure the old rule of thumb is, 8-16k for "normal" computer usage, larger stripes for databases and the like.
As an aside, be certain to maintain a regular backup schedule.

The domain this computer is on has a redirection for my documents and such to a file server running RAID5, so the only thing I'd lose are some installed applications. :)
Last array I had setup before the motherboard blew up was an array using 128k stripes.. I think that was too big. I think I might try 16-32k this time.
