Hey folks, I got a problem, and everything I tried didn't help...

My system:
Elsa Erazer III lt (with nVidia TNT2 M64 and 32 megs)
iCeleron 433@Asus P3B-F
128 megs PC100
Rest is unimportant...

I have Windows2000 Pro, and Diablo II is now telling me that it cannot detect neither DirectDraw nor Direct3D, and thus won't run at all. It has been running before. UT & Q3 still work, 'cause they run with OpenGL.

Now I have a question, which sounds stupid to Win98 users.... how in hell do I reinstall DirectX for Win2k?!?!?!? All DirectX installation files tell me they're not designed for Win2k. There's NOTHING about this on the MS-support or download pages. There's NOTHING about this problem on ANY support pages of games manufacturers. Am I the first person in the world with DirectX problems under Windows2k?!? Pleeease help!!! I didn't crank out the bucks for Diablo II (yes, I BOUGHT it!!!) only to find it not running anymore, with no solution in sight except for reinstalling Win2k. I really don't want to do that, I have waaaay to many settings and programs installed, it would take me forever to get back to current setup. http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/frown.gif PLEASE!!! PLEASE HELP!

I am surprised to hear this. I used W2K and I also have Diablo 2 installed and have not had any problems with it. I was thinking about installing directx 8, but have heard mixed reactions to it. Did you run the program that tests your system that comes with Diablo 2?

You don't say which Direct X or where YOUR version came from, so I wonder whether you have tried the REPAIR function in W2K? If you are a beta tester, you could try installing Direct X RC1 (just out). There is another site (no guarantees here)that has
some directx drivers (RCO -183) - scroll down to get them http://betatester.tin.it/en/ N.B. The link is working right now so they might be upgrading.

oldman, it used to work on my Win2k, but now it doesn't anymore. The video test from D2 tells me that it cannot find any acceptable video modes. Can anyone post a link to dx8 for win2k? Please? I'm desperate here, I'll try ANYTHING that might give me a chance...

Richardc, I am supposed to have the one that installs with Win2k, dx 7.0 I guess. I didn't install any version of dx over it (in fact, I couldn't find one that installs..)

you try reinstalling diablo II? although you might want to backup your save games before doing so, but just uninstall/reinstall it and see what that does.. if nothing else, try contacting blizzard tech support?
