I just helped someone upgrade the memory in their HP Pavilion a406X tower. The bios sees both mem sticks of 512MB each. But before the upgrade and after, Window XP Professional SP2 is only seeing 256MB. They have a separate Video card and the onboard video is set to use on 8MB. I can't figure out why Windows is not seeing any more memory.

Help!

I have attached a HiJack This Logfile, in case that is needed.

THANKS!!!!

Anybody have any idea about this?

The additional 512MB stick worked in another PC, so it is good. Thing is, this Pavilion has 1 512MB stick in it, BIOS sees it as 512MB, but XP only sees 256MB.

Was this RAM selected as compatible with this model Pavilion? Or just "similar type..so you're hoping it works?"

Try resetting BIOS to default, and having the latest version of BIOS in the system.

Granted if the BIOS sees it..the system should too. But...unless you know this stick is compatible with this system...weird things can happen.

Well the thing is, the original stick that came with it, to the best of my knowledge, is 512MB but Windows only sees 256MB. BIOS sees it all and as far as I can tell, only 8MB of system memory is going to the onboard video, should be none to the Video Card.
