I just finished a clean install of Windows Me.

So far it looks pretty good. I just have a few questions.

What are all the entries in the startup folder?

1.) PCHealth
2.) Scheduling Agent
3.) *StateMgr

Do I need to leave any of these running? What do they do?

Also what if any tweaks do I need to apply from speedguide to get my cable flying again?

What is system restore and if it is not needed how do I disable it? I also don't want ME checking for updates inless I tell it to, how do I set this up?

Thanks in advance.

Jon

I just installed it recently also. I too noticed those running. Left them on, went with the old "aint broke don`t fix" thinking on that.

In reference to the speedguide patch. Use the 98 patch.

PCHEALTH and SATEMGR are the ME's if you break it I'll fix it for you programs. In other words leave those two running

It's all a matter of preference. If you wanna get rid if them, you can, It'll give you a nice little performance boost since all those things running in the background slow down your system, especially System Restore. I personally got rid of all that crap runnin in the back cuz I just hate things slowin down my system. A newbie should definitely NOT get rid of those features, cuz you'll probably run into some big time trouble if you do.
