I have a movie in a .asf format but I can't move ahead in it by clicking on the progress bar (this is in Windows Media Player). I got a DOS program called Asfcheck and it said that there is an incorrect filesize and that it can't fix it. My question is, how do I repair it or convert it to another movie format, like avi or mpg.
Or even any good asf players out there that may be able to view it better.

i run into that all the time with movies i have downloaded off of scour exchange and the like, where the odds of getting an incomplete file are very high (even if you d/l's the whole thing from who you got it from, they may not have downloaded the full original). i am sure there are format converters out there. what i have found to be the easiest way is to just use the older windows media player (is it 6? whatever, its the one prior to 7). with that one, you can move the placement slider, even if its incomplete. and you dont need to remove windows media played 7, either. i have both running right now (they both have their strengths).
i find it easier than going through the file conversion hassle.

I have that same problem with Media Player. If I am ever watching a long .asf file I just open another program that I have that came with my TV Tuner card that lets me advance .asf movies forward or backward. I dunno why Media Player does that, cuz it does not do it to all of them. There are sometimes that it lets me advance in either direction when viewing an asf file.

Ya I'm gonna go try Media Player 6 - I liked it better than 7 anyways. 7 is to much of a resource hog and has alot of options that are useless. TOO much crap in there when all u really want is to play media files. Atleast that's my opinion of it. Thanx for the replies.
