If you want to use 2 drives as 1 to increase performance you need to setup RAID.
No drive is really first though, it will alternate between the 2 drives, but I wouldnt do it with those 2 drives.
RAID is best with both drives being the same performance.

If your motherboard supports it, or if you have a RAID card you can do it.
Pins should be set normal, master/slave if its the same cable, both masters if they are on their own.
You need to reinstall windows if its your OS partition/drive so you then need a floppy with the RAID drivers
RAID 0 for performance for 2 drives.
You make the partition in windows setup, the RAID configuration will be done from the RAID bios.

Destroy your PC as in delete your information on the drive? Uh that will happen when you make the array. RAID is nto a maigical bomb thats gonna rip your RAM in half ro something.
Yes your motherboard supports RAID, something you should have checked in the begining and known by now.
Without a floppy drive you cant install the RAID drivers during XP's installation so then you cant install XP. You then need to download the RAID driver and slipstream it onto a copy of your XP disc by using a program like nlite.
