Anyone here good at Dreamweaver 3 or is an expert with it? I need some help

Hello, I am making a webpage in dreamweaver, and I basically know what i'm doing when it comes to actually laying out the text, the info, charts, and frames. My problem is a farley simple one: i need help with ftping the page up, and most inportantly, i need help with all of the different "save" features. i can't seem to figure out witch save fearure goes for what i'm trying to save. If it would be easier to get help from someone by showing me (through www.buddyhelp.com), (http://www.buddyhelp.com),) you could do that, or just typing a responce, either way thank you all very much for the help

I'm no expert with Dreamweaver but maybe I can help a little.

Save Copy As= Use this to save images, ect to your site root folder.

Save File dialog box= use this for framesets, or use Save All for updating files in all your framesets.

saveDocument = Once all your edits and modifications have been finished, use this too store all your info.
It use's two arguments, documentObject and fileURL. Dom is the file to be saved and fileURl is the address for it to be saved to.

This function returns true if it works and false if the file-storing attempt fails.

FTP
You can use Dreamweaver, although I ususally use BulletProof for this.
I'll try and give you a basic how this works.

First, select Site New Site from the main Dreamweaver menu.

Fill in the blanks...choose a name for your site,
name a folder to serve as the local site root.

Enter the full URL for your site in the HTTP address box.

Then select the Web Server info catagory.

From the Server Access options, choose the discriptions that apply to your site.
None...if your developing it locally.
Local/Network...if your running a local web server
FTP if you connect to your server via FTO

Other than that, use the rest like a regular FTP program.
I'll bet that is confusing as can be but remember that Dreamweaver is one powerful proggie made for advanced web design.

I usually hand code html using EditPad, a notepad replacement.

when i'm totaly done with my document, how do i save the whole thing as my index??? if i have several frames do i have to click the center bar and then save? this is the part i can't figure out.

I know how to use ftp programs and stuff like that, but road runner hosting is kinda wierd and the ftp isn't working with it

Ok here goes. Remember now, I'm not an expert.

First thing to remember when using framesets is that your working with multiple HTML files , since every frame is its own file.

You need to remember to save not only all the individual frames, but also the frameset itself.

So now to save a frameset.
File, SaveFrameset Or you can save a copy of the current frameset by choosing File, Save Frameset As.

No need to select eh frameset border or position the cursor in any special place to activate this function. (At least I don't think so. Try it and see)

So now to save each frame in the frame set.
This can be a pain in the booty. However Dreamweave has a simple solution. Choose File, Save All.
If I remember right, the first time you choose it Dreamweave will cycle through each of the open frames and will display the Save File dialog box.
After that, to save changes to your frameset, use the File, Save All again and Dreamweaver will update each frame automaticaly. http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

As far as FTPing to RoadRunner....you may need to call them to figure out your correct URL or proper directory to use.

I use a couple of free sites. Both are quick, allow cgi, ect. ect. but have banners. If your interested, let me know.

Ok..these are if you don't mind banners.

Both of these seem to be pretty fast depending on where your at of course.

And I used this one a while back. It was slow but no banners. I've thought about using it again as they upgraded their servers. But no cgi-bin. On the other hand, if your not selling anything, or running perl script, you wont' need a cgi-bin anyway.

All these are free and hold a lot more than the 4 or 5 megs your ISP is willing to give you.

If you set up your root directory, and save everything to there, then when you upload, everything should point in the right place.

i would like to use virtualave.net or whatever to host, but I don't have a pay email adress, they don't accept hotmail/excitemail/yahoomail accounts, any suggestions?

BTW: cgi isn't a big thing for me, i'm just going to be posting pictures and other stuff
