OK...haven't piddled with XBox 360 much. Girlfriends son has XBox 360...with the wireless bridge.

She got a Netgear router (not by my advice)....I set it up with WPA security....and got his XBox up and running quickly.

Next..he wanted to host games like GOW. I read up online..found that you need ports open/forwarded...so I setup his XBox adapter on a static LAN IP..and forwarded the ports to it. I even tried to DMZ the XBox. But..when he fires up his GOW server...gives a message something like "Firewall on strict"

Netgear wgr614
Latest firmware
UPnP enabled
From what I read online...the port forwarding..I have all the ports done..but DMZ would make that moot anyways when trying it.

What do XBox 360rs have for input here...

i have never had an issue with port on my router(s) a befsr41 and wrtg or whatever, and there daisychained lol, upnp isnt enabled on either. can he sign into live at all? on the system tab there is a network diag option. that might give you an idea on what part its hanging up on.

did ya try it wired? maybe its a wireless thing. my brother is on the wireless adapter running to a cheap d-link and ive played him in GOW. best of luck to ya

Wired isn't an option...his room is a couple of rooms across the house. Signal should still be strong however.

Gotta literally walk me through the steps on stuff like "Network Diag" option. I'll try a few things this weekend.

He can sign into Live. It just seems when he goes to host a game...gives that strict firewall warning..and nobody can join his game.

They're on cable...it's a pure cable modem..not some combo modem/router that has its own NAT.

I'll try my own wrt54 with DD-WRT firmware this weekend..just to see if the Netgear has issues with it..I have found on a few XBox forums that quite a few peeps haven't had good luck with the Netgears.

I had exactly same problem on the Linksys router.
No matter what I tryed people couldnt connect or I failed connect to LIVE.

When I did DMZ 40% of the people could connect and the rest couldnt.

"Every" (not all of them) game is using different ports, search GOW and enable the ports.

In my case I made it simple, I unplugged wan1/or wan2 and connected it directly to 360 ...after I was done playing I plugged it back in.

Also I found out every time before I go on LIVE I reset my modem and it helps with lag. With routers, yes routers not router no matter which brand it is you can expect 5-15% lag increase.

EDIT: You are not wired, I'm wired ..hmm ...I'm going to ask one of the experts who designed firmware for 360 he will know for sure, expect my answer this evening.

Issue solved..apparently the latest firmware isn't fully...XBox certified and compatible..had to revert back to an old version, 1.1.11

He's psyched now..I remotely "downgraded" it all..and he was online.

Here's one of those rare cases where the latest firmware isn't always the best option.

He gave me this (http://hushedcasket.com/node/1724) and this (http://portforward.com/)

Let me know if it helped.
