OS: Fedora Core 6 http://fedora.redhat.com/

The server is already assembled, and I just delivered it to a local Tampa DC today (Powermedium.com (http://www.powermedium.com/)). They have multihomed bandwidth, and host most Wikipedia servers, among others. Will ask for some traces when it is up and running, hopefully later today.

Hell yeah... I'm kinda curious on how much faster the loading of pages will be over the old one.

Nice system. (except for Fedora..I lean more toward bsd or debian for production servers)
I'm gonna mis the old datacenter, it's 10 min from my house. When I had high latency I could always walk to McLean and view my last post!

You're right on target... I'm a bit partial to Red Hat/Fedora, and wanted something cutting edge. Also, moving down to Tampa may be a bit of a tradeoff for latency, it certainly can't compete with MAE East, but they are connected to at least 3 major backbones, so I hope we'll be ok :)

It was giving me a few problems, I'll bring it down for testing/OS reinstall eventually, once everything is transferred over and tested on the new box.

Me too :) ... CPU time will not be an issue with 4 cores for sure, and we're doubling RAM.

Thanks Mark. I've had it for a while at my place and it's stable and fast so far, we'll see how it handles the real-world load soon :)

Awesome!

Let me know how you like that colo. I've been keeping my eye out for the right deal so my colleague and I can get our mail/web server into a nicer home.

Business Class RoadRunner just won't cut it too much longer for us, especially now that we have several sites and mail domains running from our server. I just brought in a guy that is a web marketing guru who promises to bring lots of traffic our way and if that happens, we could have issues. We're having a meeting next Friday evening to discuss our future plans for the server, etc.

I bookmarked the site for your new colo, thanks. :)

Good luck w/ the server move. :thumb:

When ya plan on flipping DNS? :D

Old server seems to be struggling for me tonight.

Philip
11-14-06, 06:40 PM
Configuring mail server and some non-essential/static stuff. Will flip DNS and move Databases tomorrow or Thursday, as time allows. Most likely Thursday.

I'll most likely have to close the forum on the old server after changing the DNS to move the DB - I don't really think it will be necessary to setup remote DB access across the servers, DB replication and all that fun stuff.

Question: Why do I have asterisks?

Because you have been looking for love in all the wrong places...
You need to see a doctor as soon as possible... In the mean time, have no sexual contact with anyone (including yourself) until your medical professional starts you on the proper treatment...

This has been a public service announcement... :D

Shinobi, yum seems to work pretty well, much more polished than up2date and seems to resolve all dependencies ok. You can add repos to it as well... It's been mostly a smooth ride, minus a sendmail mess I got myself into, grr. Anyone into playing with sendmail.mc and domain masquerading through an anti-spam proxy ?

Q: Is there a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for yum?
A: Yes! It's called Yum Extender.

You can install it with yum:

1. Open a Terminal.
2. Become root:

su -
3. Install yumex:

yum install yumex

Now you can access Yum Extender in the Applications menu, under "System Tools."

Say Philip. What is the router password? I can get to it... but I need the password to check "stuff" out.

Giving rep points is cool now, doesn't have to load an extra page, but the box that comes afterwards is annoying.

Replaced with the older ones. It's just a bit tough to get gif/jpg images to look good on both light and dark background without jagged edges.
