Production is expected to end in October 2006 after a long production run, with 2007 being the last model year. The Taurus was ultimately replaced by three cars, each aimed at better covering the markets that the Taurus had competed in. The Ford Five Hundred, a large car; its crossover SUV version, the Ford Freestyle to replace the Taurus Wagon; and the Ford Fusion a midsize car closer in size to the Taurus. Most Tauruses were built either in Chicago, Illinois (until April 23, 2004, at which time the plant was retooled to build the Five Hundred) or in Ford's Hapeville Plant in Atlanta, Georgia.

My step-father owned one. Yamaha did a great job on the top half of the engine. Its homeliness fooled many into thinking it was some ordinary family sedan. Helpful in avoiding the police.

Its good to hear, but it sure aint new news.
I think the only reason they discontinued it was becasue they couldnt make it any uglier.

Yeah was was a decent engine. What was it..225hp? Back then..in the days of 150 - 175hp being good for V-6's.....getting over 200 was quite amazing.
There was a place that stuffed that engine in early Mazda Miatas. Would have loved to take one of thoe for a spin.
I don't think it fooled too many police though, or more people who had a slight interest in sporting cars...very easily recognized from all 4 angles with that body kit.

For the regular? I think the SHO was a bit more even.

The SHO was 220 until '96 when it got bumped to 235 V8.
The base V6 was 140 until '96. Then it was either 200 for the Duratech of 145 for the Vulcan V6's.

Reason is the only way you can get a Tarus is at a rental place or as government car because no one buys it.
