View Full Version : hard drive power problem

1 of my secondary storage drives has been powering down on its own. Still functions normally as far as i can see. When i try to access it to wake it up, it stutters, but then is fine.

As far as i know, no windows setting is telling it to do this, and is not happening to any of my other drives. I did not see a setting for this to happen in the BIOS.

Soooo.... my question is... is this bad? im thinking yes and backing up now just in case.

Go into your display properties, then the "screen saver" tab. Click "power" and make sure its not set to "turn off hard disks" after a set amount of time.

yea... something is definately wrong... ran HD tach.... drive is getting 5.4 mbps.....

Sounds like the drive may be going, time to backup whats important.

Go to your manufacturer's website and download their drive test tools just to be sure.
