I have been trying to configure my Microsoft Outlook to receive and send email from my RCN account (pop & smtp). When I click test account settings i get two error messages below. At a total loss for what to do. I have tried everything (changed settings, called RCN, etc.). ANY SUGGESTIONS?? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

*Find incoming mail server (POP3): Outlook could not connect to the incoming mail server (POP3). The problem could be the server name or port, or your server name or port, or your server may not support SSL. Verify your port and SSL settings in More Settings under the Advanced Tab.

*Find outgoing mail server (SMTP): Outlook could not connect to the outgoing mail server (SMTP). The problem could be the server name or port, or your server name or port, or your server may not support SSL. Verify your port and SSL settings in More Settings under the Advanced Tab.

I guess you have resolved the problem looking at the posting date. I had a similar occurence after a system reinstall. The culprit found was the antivirus scanning of the e-mail. Once the ports and othetr info were placed in the AV scanning setup for the e-mail the connections worked flawlessly. In my haste to get the machine productive again by priorities 1. Firewall 2. AntiVirus apps. 3. Basic support programs i.e. Browser, e-mail clients, telnet, ftp, WP, DB ect. ect. neglected to notice that the AV scanning wasn't allowing the connections from the e-mail client.

Hope this helps.
