Help, this is my first post on this forum.
I have Verizon FIOS 5/2 service. When I use IE I can go to speed test sites and they all report 5.1/1.8 mbps. But when I switch to FireFox (1.5.0.6) I get 900k to 1 mbps uplink speeds, downloads 5.1. This hold true for Speakeasy, pcpitstop, and infospeed.verizon.net. On speedtest.verizon.net it registers 1.8mbps. I have talked to verizon tech support and have run optimizers from this site and verizon site. No change. The tech was at a lost, and did not have any more options to try.
All test were run on a wired connection to my netgear FVS328 router, XP Home SP2, no other users or PC's on. I did a clean install yesterday thinking something was messed up. After doing all of MS (45+) updates. I installed my Avira AV. Installed FF. Ran the speakeasy test, Same results 5.1 meg down with 900k up.
Everything points to something restricting my up link to 20% of my down. But then again I can go to Speedtest.verizon and it show the proper speed.
HELP, I've run out of ideas and things to try.
