The full-size SUV market may be shrinking, but there is still a substantial niche market for full-size SUVs with three rows of seating, 4X4 capability, and a strong towing capacity, according to Ford of Canada. The redesigned 2007 Ford Expedition SUV targets these buyers, reports Editor Greg Wilson, but the biggest news is the new extended length Expedition Max which is designed to go head to head with the Chevy Suburban.

That thing is huge. It should require a special licsense to drive that damn thing. Someone under 5' tall shouldn't be allowed to drive it.

It amazes me even with higher gas prices our consumption is even higher. :wth:

There is a specialty market for these that may justify their existence, but little else does imho. Trailer towing, Resort transportation in rough areas, Construction Crews, etc.

As of now i think Sales of large Trucks, 1/2 Tons and up, plus SUVs where down as much as 34% last month. That's one hell of a hit and they will continue to decline as Petrol rises in cost.

This may well be the undoing of Ford, Chrysler & GM as their profits are made in these areas. They will have to reinvent themselves imho if they are to survive the European and Japanese competition i think.

It will be interesting to see where they are a year from now.
