thats what i want to know!
Maybe casue he was here since December of '99??
Well to answer the question, it should have been in the the CD holder. Most likely a white paper bag with a sticker on it. That sticker has your ID #.
If you can't find it, just do a search on the net, and you can find some other numbers that will work for you.
If you are referring to the Product key for your purchased version of Win 98 it is located in the registry! (if you haven't already formatted the drive)
Open regedit & drill to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version
ProductKey is listed there along with other info.....
just because i'm a senior member with 62 post does not mean i can't lose my documentation. thanks tonyt (445 posts) and ssjdoh (1014 posts) for your constructive suggestions. thats what speedguide is all about. as to juggernaut & striderf1, speedguide is a great site and does not need any kiddies critiquing the post by others. if you don't care to contribute to the needs of others just don't reply to the post. perhaps you should move along to some of the kiddie sities where your maturity level is more acceptable.

You need to loosen up Rookie. The senior member question wasn't brought up because you misplaced a product ID, it was brought up because we all thought someone needed 100 posts to get the 'senior member' status and they were just asking how you got it with 62 posts. Lighten up.
yip..i can see that now..guess i was too up tight...i'm moreloose now. my apoligies to you both, striderf1 and juggernaut.

Did you register you copy? Perhaps then you would be able to get help from MS.
yes i did register. thanks for the tip. however, all's well now. i was relating this event to one of my buds and he confessed to borrowing my win98 book that had the certificate of authenticity. i'm back in business. thanks again.

Rookie-
It's a good idea to write down the product key on paper & store in a easy to locate place. (I also keep em on disk)

You can also just go to system properties in the control panel and view it there...
yip..but only if you havn't just reformatted (like this rookie did).
John...fyi - the system properties applet shows the Product ID not the Product Key which is what Rookie needed I believe, to enter when loading windows.
