I just got a letter today saying they're finally offering high speed access in my area.

With Charter I'm currently getting (stated) 3000/248 for $52

Verizon Package 1: 5.0Mbps over 2.0Mbps for $34.95
Verizon Package 2: 15.00Mbps over 2.0 Mbps for $44.95

Good bye Charter

That's a damn good price! what's the deal with your phones tho?
don't you have to put like a UPS APC so you have phone service if the power goes out or something like that? I thought i read about that somewhere..

The mailer that I got was a little unclear about several things. I'm going to call them and get the complete story first. I really do hope it is all they say. I'm gonna love telling Charter customer service to disconnect my service and that I'm leaving them. It's not that the actual service is bad, it's just having to deal with nothing but a bunch of morons on the phone or email. Actually, I think I get about 1 response for each 10 emails I send them. They suck.

I recently got the Fios service. The internet service is nice. That price comes with a 1 yr service contract, but it seems to be worth it so far. I'm getting faster download speeds than I was with Brighthouse who said I should be getting 6-7Mbps.
I scored 5005kbps down and 1771kbps up at http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/.

Yes, they installed a UPS in my garage for power outages. And yes, they will convert your phone line from copper to fiber during the install. I don't know about losing phone service during a power outage. I have a cell phone though, so no biggie.

Their TV service is another story... still looking for a forum to voice my opinion on that.

Chaze, thanks for the info.

I sent Charter an email today asking them if they were interested in lowering my monthy fee in order to be more inline with what Verizon is offering. I told them if not, I'd be terminating my service in the near future.

We'll see what they say.

When you ran the test were you using IE or other?

I switched from comcast to verizon FIOS and my uplink speed reports fine with IE but if I use FF I get 1 meg up speed where IE reports 1.8mbps. Download speeds are fine.

Even on one of Verizon test page It reports 800k.

Any Ideas on what to change to correct this?????

Blue68100, goto www.verizon.net/optimizespeed, and d/l the right TCP/IP for you, I d/l'd the one for 2000/XP and AFTER I ran it and it put in in my registry, I rebooted n did a speed test and got get this 1.95MBPS... I'm on the 15MBPS&2MBPS speed... I've had it for 3 Firdays now and I TOTALLY LOVE IT. I always see atleast 15.3MBPS for my download.

And btw, what part of Pittsburgh u located in Rainbow, i'm in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, and have had fiber like I said for 3 Fridays now and I LOVE IT!!!

I install VZ Fios here in NY. Services were originally 5/2 ; 15/2 ; 30/5 They have since been upgraded to 10/2 ; 20/5 ; 30/5 respectively. A battery backup unit and power supply do get installed in the customers home. If the power goes out, the BBU kicks in and you have 8hours talk time on the phone but you will still lose internet and tv. Any other info anyone needs, feel free to ask me.

Blue68100,
I'm sorry I screwed up on the webpage, IF u have Win2000/XP, please email me at seanthomas2@verizon.net, and i'll give u the TCP/IP to optomize your connection ok? All u have to do is let it install to ur registry, reboot, then do another speedtest, and it should've fixed it.
