I'd say!!!!

" The 2.4GHz E6600 turned out to be quite an overclocker in our tests. Even though it was hard-locked at a 9 multiplier it reached an amazing 4GHz in the overclocking tests. That represents a 67% overclock. "

It reached 4 ghz from 2.4 stock....cpu's and boards are going to be reasonably priced but what kills this is that some really good quality ddr2 will run about $300-350 for 2 x 1 gb sticks.

is this a chip that will be viable in a laptop?

not sure but i wouldn't see why not.

high performance, average heat, I think so.

pretty impressive but as stated above I dont think AMD will sit idle while something costing 200$ is outperforming there flagship costing 5x more. We'll see how this plays out.

Everyone keeps saying the 183 chip out performs AMD's best, it doesnt, it wins in like 2 or 3 benchmarks.

Conroe is deffinately great, but lets be a bit accurate. Unless someone can show me reviews where the 6300 beats the fx62 consistantly.

They are talking about an overclocked version of the budget conroe beating the AMD flagship. Heck, you can oc a 165 opty to over FX-60 speeds.

But for the $300 you just paid for the opty 165 you could get the 6600 which definately beats the $1k fx62 in nearly all benches...dont get me wrong, i would love to have an opty over my 3.2e that's heating up my basement, but if someone's going to be upgrading soon i dont think that would be the smartest route to go IMO.

No question that the newest conroe offerings are superior to the present AMD stock. I was pointing out that there are some of us who are enjoying 2.8 GHz from our opty's without doling out the green for a FX-6x. Basically, they should compare apples to apples.

I admit I am very curious to see what AMD does in light of the latest Intel chips.

The main problem I see for AMDs position is that the Intel chips aren't marginally better, they're a heck of a lot better. On top of that, with the E6300 performing far better than similarly priced, or even double or triple priced AMD counterparts, it puts them into an interesting position through the entier price market. Intel has a better lower priced, mid priced, and high priced processor.

Can't wait.

Not a big surprise. With 65nm and the changing heat tolerances, this should be a doable number for Intel CPUs.

I would love to see how this puppy runs apps and games.

I'm really curious on what that X6800 will do.... I'm almost temped into building a system and getting one just to see what the hell it does and then sell everything off on ebay for a profit :D
