Hi there

I am busy setting up a old pc for a friend.
And I am trying to install a western digital WD800BB hard drive in it,
But it is crashing the cmos on start up.
Cant auto detect coz is crashes and on start up the pc picks it up in the first part of booting up but on the second faze it just hangs…
Any ideas what it could be??
Checked jumpers they fine
Changed ide cable so that’s fine
Bios 2a6lgq1f
Tried to find info on this but not a lot on the net! Also tried to find a way of limiting the space with the jumper but I cant find any info on that.

Thanks

What motherboard is it?

So the bios doesnt freeze if you take the hard drive out?

what is the 2nd phase of booting up you're refering to?

So that translates to... you have 2 80 gig drives and you tried them both in the system and it does the same thing?

how do you have the jumpers set on the drive? Tried it with no jumpers on at all? and cable select?

You said the motherboard is winbond? is that the name of the board or a chip on the board.

having the brand and model of the motherboard might help.
