Lookin at a new FX processor and I've found OEM and Retail versions.. which of course the OEM is cheaper but do ya think its worth the price drop as in risk cause hasn't it been used already?

oem has a shorter warrenty and no heatsink, but if you are overclocking who cares, because the warrenty is void doing that anyways.

i know you water cool so maybe go oem ?

i have read about some AMD price drops coming soon, not sure when though.

Thinking way down the road, retail will make it easier to resell since you will have a box, heatsink, etc...

well I wo'nt have to worry about resell if I get what I'm thinking of getting.. and I'm water cooling so I won't need the HSF.. so I think I'll go OEM.

Retail CPUs are generally cut from the center of the sheet..with OEM chips being cut from the perimeter of the sheet. The generally accepted belief is that the center of the sheets yield a higher quality chip. So going back a few CPU generations....those who wanted to overclock..push the limits, tended to have better success with retail chips.

I would speculate a percentage that would equate to an amount less than the current price.
