RCN connection pauses, but not with VPN running

Hi,

I've got broadband through RCN, with a Motorola Surfboard cable modem hooked up to a Linksys Wireless Router (WRTP 54g).

The wireless is slow - it pauses for a second or two on every site load "Looking up" the address.

Wiring directly to the cable modem works fine. Also - and strangely - when connected to VPN for school the wireless connection works perfectly.

Any ideas what the problem might be? It seems like it might be fixed with a router setting, but I can't figure it out. The VPN thing has me baffled...

JUst a guess on this when you swtich to vpn mode in the router the mtu could be set to a lower value causing the slow downs.
