It's amazing how many unsecured wireless networks are out there.

Even the local elementary school has an unprotected wireless network.

actually since wardriving is nothing new to me, the only reason I really made the thread is b/c I was shocked to see the schools network unprotected.

I am considering writing them a letter.

Yeah wardriving can be allot of fun. I've seen accountants and lawyers wide open. The MUA here isn't keyed either.

well there are enough home networks around you could access the net..
alternatively many decent hotels now have wireless access as well..


as far as hotels go, I haven't tried to access the internet at most of them...I still need to try that out..
so far the only one I have found that does not seem to work is Hampton Inn.

It requires some type of access code, I suppose they give it to you at check-in or if you ask for it.

Yea, Ive got the advantage though of being in a commerical truck so most people when they see it just think im working on the cable in the neighboorhood and dont really pay much attention. Not a good idea in your personal vehicle to be creeping around like that :) Ive got several hotspots now where I actually have a nice little hiding spot too. Fun stuff I tell ya, I wanna get a 40ft wifi antenna for my house and be able to access my router from anywhere in town :)

LOL, actually our schools system as well as the rest of the city is on a wired network, no wireless. The city's IT guy, no matter how bad we dog on him, is pretty security conscious. Believe me I know where many hotspots are located throughout the city. The Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express were both open here for awhile, but have since gone to an access code. But man this is a college town with a gazilion apartment complexes. If I really had the time to sit and surf all day, there would be no problem finding a signal. When I need to access the net usually for work purposes, I use one of several businesses that offer free wi-fi. One of my supervisors actually just bought a coffee house and is offering it to his customers.
