Hey guys. I need a little help with a wireless network. Basically I have to boost the signal strength of my parents network. They have a Netgear RP314 router, B series. Does anyone know if this (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=33-124-037&depa=0) will work?

Here (http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=38&prid=629) is the link from Linksys

In priciple it shoul but his type of products might be chipset dependent.

You might want to buy a similar product from Netgear.

Because it looks like a flimsy piece of crap.

Other suggestions appreciated.

Sid,
I found the following article extremely helpful when setting up my WRE54G: http://www.tomsnetworking.com/Sections-article90-page1.php

I still ended up calling Linksys tech support during the set up because my link light stayed red no matter what (supposedly meaning it was not connecting to the AP). This turned out to be a non-issue. The updated firmware fixes the red light.

There is also an article on the same site that goes more in-depth into using a WDS bridge (range expander) with older B speed equipment: http://www.tomsnetworking.com/Sections-article78-page1.php

One note: I did not use the auto-config button on the WRE54G for my setup. Went straight to the configuration screen using a static IP address and set everything up.

I am very happy with my range expander. I have set it up on what used to be the edge of my wireless network and now I have a 54 Mbps connection where I was once lucky to get a 1 or 2.

Later,
Brian

Oh yeah, I bought mine from Newegg, too. Excellent service.
